There is an old Buddhist saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”
Before I started Tracy Larsen Photography, I worked as a dietitian for professional sports teams. So no one was more surprised than I when the arrival of my son Quinn brought me a gorgeous bundle of joy… and a new career.
At first, I was like all new moms, crazy in love with my baby and scrambling to photograph each of his delightful new quirks as he changed by the minute. Soon my enthusiasm for photography was growing just as fast as my son! While he napped, I read everything I could about photography – technique, equipment, lighting, color – and when he woke up I practiced what I learned, documenting every silly, splendid, exquisite moment. (There wasn’t a lot of sleep, that year, I’ll admit.)
As he crawled around grinning happily, Quinn taught me the basics of photographing children: finding natural light, working organically with unposed settings, learning to draw out genuine expressions of little ones who are full of energy and constantly on the move. That drive to honor those little details inspired me to create a custom photography business that lets me share my passion and proficiency with others.
It’s been my experience that nothing beats the random, rollicking adventure that is raising a family – and that is why Tracy Larsen Photography offers busy parents the opportunity to savor and capture their children’s individuality as they adventure alongside one another.
